Halloween Science Experiments for Kids

Student teaching allows me to observe/ participate in fun science experiments. This year for my 3rd grade class's Halloween party the class did four different science experiments.  As teachers we gave the experiments Halloween names, but they could be done anytime of year.  The experiment are simple and mostly use ingredients you have around your house.


Ghouly Glove

Materials 
baking soda
vinegar
rubber glove
jar

Directions
1. Put 2 teaspoons of baking soda in glove, and move it around so there is baking soda in every finger.
2. Put 3 tablespoon of vinegar in jar.
3. Quickly put glove on jar and holding the bottom of the glove.
4. Watch what happens.





Goblin Goo 
Materials 
1 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup water
food coloring

Directions 
1. Mix cornstarch and water together (The consistency will be like syrup)
2 Add food coloring
3. Play with it!

Swirly Magic Potion

Materials 
plate or bowel 
milk (whole milk works the best)
dish soap 
food coloring 

Directions 
1. Put milk in plate or bowel 
2. Drop food coloring in milk (do not stir) 
3. Put a few drops of soap in the milk
4. Watch the reaction between the food coloring and soap. 



Monster Blood (Lava Lamp) 

Materials 
Jar 
water 
vegetable oil 
food coloring 
alka-seltzer tablet 

Directions 
1. Fill jar 1/4 of the way with water 
2. Then fill the rest of the jar with vegetable oil 
3. Put 6 -8 drops of food coloring in (do not stir or shake jar) 
4. Drop an alka-seltzer tablet in the jar and watch reaction 
5. When reaction slows down you can add another alka-seltzer tablet in.
